You will be given an A3 sheet with a grid in order to create your map. You can then stick the A3 sheet onto A2 card. Your map should include the following as a minimum:

1. A name for your island.

2. A suitable scale

3. A compass direction indicator

4. A symbols key (select the ones that you want from the Ordnance Survey map key).

5. Varying topography (i.e. height of the land). The map ideally will have areas of high and low land. Think carefully how you can easily show relief.

6. All locations need to be named e.g. villages and towns and built up areas coloured accordingly.

7. Add the symbols that you have chosen to use to the correct locations on your maps. Remember to add roads to link up the different locations and carefully consider which roads to use.

8. You will need to add grid numbers to your map.

Extension: Your next job is to create 5 different map skills questions. You should try to apply all of the skills you have learned in this unit.
